Alongside our inspirational Musical Director, Gareth, we are incredibly fortunate to have, not only the invaluable contributions and enthusiasm from each member, but a wonderful team supporting the day to day operation of the choir.

Gareth has been with the choir from the start. He is a well established professional musician and Choir Director and has worked with choirs across the country as director and vocal coach, drawing the best from every single performer. Choirs under his tutelage have performed with the likes of Sting, Sir Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Eric Clapton and Oasis. Can WCGC aspire to such great heights?

Northants Sings Out, an amalgam of choirs under Gareth’s directorship and now in its 9th year, is the natural fruit of Gareth’s hard work, commitment and talent bringing incredible live music from across the genres and inspiring and entertaining both audiences and choir members.

Despite being steeped in performing in Musical Theatre for the past 30 years, Ruth was inspired to establish the Wellingborough Community Gospel Choir following a series of successful workshops run by Gareth for all pupils and staff at Wellingborough School. She has delighted in watching the Choir grow from strength to strength over the years. Ruth and her husband Garry, who is also an enthusiastic member of the tenor/bass section, recently retired from Wellingborough School. Ruth is now able to enjoy the 'highlife' which includes travelling, playing golf, entertaining and gardening.... sadly though she is still too young to qualify for her bus pass!!

I have always loved to sing, even though I cannot read music, and was very excited when my friend Ruth decided to form a new choir in 2012. I have been involved ever since and am delighted that the choir has grown so much since then, and continues to do so. It’s a fun place to be and I really look forward to our weekly rehearsals.

Ruth asked me if I fancied coming along to sing Gospel songs on a Tuesday night. I have a love of music, but would never admit to being able to sing. I gave it a go and still singing 10 years later helping Ruth where I can. Not a strong singer, but confidence comes from positioning myself near someone who has a good strong voice and I absolutely love it!

Sarah is from Suffolk but has lived in Northampton for the past 10 years. Past musical endeavours started in her teens and lead her on to study music in London. She now takes part in singing across the country and has sung with Gareth for over 8 years. Having recently joined WCGC, Sarah has taken on the role of content editor and marketing specialist for the choir.

Having always loved music and singing, it had been many years since Emma had sung publicly, so when her great friend Lucy James spotted the opportunity to join a fabulous new local Choir it was the perfect chance to do so again. Having been a member since the very first rehearsal in April 2012, Emma describes the experience of being part of Wellingborough Community Gospel Choir; ‘No matter what is going on in life, the one constant is the weekly joy gained from singing your heart out with a wonderful group of likeminded people, joining together through their love to sing. From the amazing performances we've had the chance to be part of within the community, from small events to full professional shows as part of the Northants Sings Out family of choirs, it's a special choir to be part of. Long may it continue to thrive!’ Emma is passionate about this wonderful choir and is delighted to be part of the team committed to running it.

I have been a member of the choir now for around three years. I was originally inspired by seeing the choir's first performance at our church in Yardley Hastings. They created an amazing sound and atmosphere and they all seemed to having such fun. I must confess that I really hadn't thought too much about Gospel music before then, but seeing that performance made me realise that you didn't have to be an expert singer or be able to read music to be part of that and all its amazing sounding harmonies. That is also made even easier than one would have thought by the phenomenal skills of our choir master, Gareth. I now really look forward to our Tuesday evening rehearsals, which are hard work at times as well as being relaxed and "good fun". Bring on the next three years!!
